Our Impact

An icon depicting a group of heads smiling.

We began pursuing certification about 1 year after forming our business, and the process was a wild ride. It was daunting, frustrating, exhilarating, and eye opening. But at the end of the day, as a small, young business this process allowed us to create a vision for our future impact.

We are incredibly passionate about our clients, and are proud to say that most of our points in this section come from the Impact Business Model (IBM) for Support for Underserved/Purpose Driven Enterprises. IBM's are much more difficult to qualify for, because you must show that your business is designed to create a specific positive outcomes for one of its stakeholders. Our internal Impact Scorecard came in handy here! We have formally defined the outcomes sought by our services and have developed a theory of change for them, and we track that in our Impact Scorecard. We also gained points in this section for the following:
  • We monitor client satisfaction, share testimonials publicly, and have set targets for client satisfaction.
  • We have a formal program in place to incorporate customer feedback into our service designs.
  • We have a policy in place for ethical marketing.
Community Graphic
We scored the highest in this section, a reflection of our values. What we care about most at The Impact Collective is HUMANS feeling understood, valued and respected - and our high score in the Community section reflects that. Here are some of the ways we gained those points:
  • The Impact Collective is proudly owned and led by women
  • We made greater than 50% of our purchases from BIPOC and women-owned companies.
  • We are proud to bank with a B Corp - shout out to Beneficial State Bank!
  • We are committed to donating at least 2% of our time to pro bono projects
Governance graphic
Governance - maybe it's not as "sexy" as the other sections in the BIA, but we believe it's the most important in terms of long-term, systemic impact. And here's why.10 of our 14.1 points were for Mission Lock - meaning the "legal requirement" for B Corp certification. Here in Oregon, that means we registered as a Benefit Company. So, our articles or organization state that we are required to create a material positive impact on society and the environment. It's in our DNA. And more importantly, it protects our purpose and impact in the long term. If we come under new ownership or management, they are required to abide by those rules and make a positive impact on people and the environment as well. The rest of our points in this section mostly came from operationalizing our Mission Lock. We use social and environmental KPIs to guide our decision-making. And we make our social and environmental impact public.
